A27 incident: Abnormal loads partially block road in West Sussex

Two abnormal loads became stuck on the A27 in Worthing this afternoon (Tuesday, July 2).

A photo, published on social media, showed the vehicles blocking the eastbound carriageway, near the Swandean Hospital.

A spokesperson for Sussex Roads Police: “Huge thanks to the public for you patience on A27 earlier whilst we sorted the stuck abnormal load. We understand you all have places to be and we got it sorted as quickly and safely as we could.”

The police said an ‘investigation into the circumstances’ of the incident is ‘ongoing’.

An AA Traffic News report read: “Partially blocked and delays due to two abnormal loads are stuck on A27 Arundel Road Eastbound at Salvington Hill. Photos on social media show the loads just past the traffic lights.

“Severe delays of eleven minutes and delays increasing on Sompting Bypass westbound between A27 Upper Brighton Road and A27 Arundel Road. Average speed ten mph

“Delays increasing on A27 Arundel Road eastbound between A280 (Angmering / Clapham junction) and Swandean Close. Average speed ten mph.”
