A27 roadworks between Worthing and Shoreham cause traffic misery: everything you need to know

Unplanned roadworks between Worthing and Shoreham continue to cause traffic misery for drivers.

Yesterday morning (August 22), the westbound carriageway of the Shoreham Bypass, between the Portslade turn off and the Sompting Roundabout junction with Grinstead Lane, Lancing, was closed down to one lane of traffic and caused tailbacks of four miles. Today (August 23), the lane closures remain in place. Dan Brown, spokesman for the SGN gas network, said: “We’re working to connect a property to our gas network near the westbound carriageway of the A27. This work was planned in consultation with Highways England. To ensure everyone’s safety around our work area, we’ve needed to close one lane of the westbound carriageway. We’ve completed our engineering work and we’re now carrying out reinstatement to restore the road surface to its original condition. All being well, we’ll complete reinstatement this afternoon enabling us to safely reopen the westbound lane. We’d like to thank affected motorists for their patience and understanding while we’ve carried out this gas network connection work.”
