COUNTY NEWS: Boy fighting for his life after car collision

A 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was involved in a collision with a car.

Emergency services were contacted at just after 8.30pm last night about the collision, which occured at the Halewick Lane junction of the A27 in Sompting, West Sussex.

Police, the fire service and the ambulance service were all in attendance.

A spokesperson for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance said they were called to the road traffic collision at 9pm and sent a helicopter to the scene.

They said: “The patient was a 16-year-old male pedestrian who suffered a head injury and was given emergency treatment by the helicopter’s doctor and paramedic before being flown to the specialist neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital.”

He is still currently being treated there.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said that they sent six units to the scene.

After assisting fire and rescue crews and the ambulance services they put up a road closure, which remained in effect until just before 1am when roads were reopened.

A fire service spokesperson said they sent two fire engines and a heavy rescue vehicle to the scene from Worthing Fire Station along with an officer.
