Cyclist seriously injured after collision with road sign in Horsham

A 46-year-old local man has been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with series back injuries after colliding with a road sign in Hammerpond Road, Horsham, on Friday (May 3).

A police statement says the man was cycling north west and while on a single carriageway bridge it is thought that he swerved to avoid a green Land Rover that was towing a trailer causing him to collide with a temporary road sign.

Police and emergency services were called to scene of the collision near Church Lane at around 4.20pm.

The Land Rover driver, a 73-year-old man from Henfield was uninjured.

PC Mark Bassett from West Sussex Road Policing Unit said: “The cyclist remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to please call 101 quoting serial 1042 of 3 May.”
