Driver suffered serious injuries in South Heighton crash

A driver suffered potentially life threatening injuries in a collision between two cars on the A26 at South Heighton yesterday (Sunday July 14) afternoon.

Police were called just before 1pm and both the male driver, aged 61, and the female passenger, aged 57, from a Fiat Punto had to be cut free from the wreckage.

Both were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with the driver having suffered potentially life threatening injuries.

The driver of the second car, a Hyundai, a 62-year-old local woman, was also taken to hospital with suspected fractures.

The road was closed for more than four hours to remove the wreckage and to enable a thorough investigation by the forensic collision and reconstruction unit.

Any witnesses are requested to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Dominion.
