Eastbourne fire crews release person from vehicle after Hailsham incident

Emergency services were called to a two-car crash in Hailsham on Sunday (May 31).

Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and East Sussex Fire And Rescue Service (ESFRS) all reportedly attended the scene in Battle Road at about 2.30pm.

Sussex Roads Police said on Twitter, “We’ve been dealing with a two vehicle crash on Battle Road in Hailsham. Disappointed to say the driver of the other vehicle involved has failed a roadside breath test. Let us know if you witnessed the crash.”

A Sussex Police spokesperson said, “At 2.35pm on Sunday (May 31) two cars collided in Battle Road, Hailsham.

“The drivers, a man aged 38 from Hailsham and a woman aged 74 from Heathfield, together with a man aged 81 who was a passenger in the car driven by the woman, were taken to Conquest Hospital in Hastings with what were all described as serious but not life life-threatening injuries.

“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact Sussex Police online at www.sussex.police.uk/contact/af/contact-us/ or by calling 101, quoting serial 934 of 31/05.”

An ESFRS spokesperson said, “Two fire engines from Eastbourne went to make the vehicles safe and one person was released from a vehicle at around 2.30pm today.”

According to reports, the road was still closed off at 4.05pm.
