LATEST: Witness appeal launched after Bury crash

POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses to a crash on the A29 in Bury this morning (Wednesday, October 1).

The crash took place shortly after 8.30am and involved a black Land Rover Discovery 4x4 and a blue Mazda hatchback, travelling in the opposite direction.

A woman driving the 4x4 suffered minor injuries, police said, but the woman in the Mazda was trapped in her car with serious leg and pelvic injuries.

She was freed and treated at the scene before being flown to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, London, by the Sussex Air Ambulance.

The crash occurred just south of Turners Garage and the A29 was closed in both directions while emergency services were at the scene.

Sergeant Anthony Crisp, of the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit, in Arundel, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who saw either of the vehicles involved being driven in the collision.
