Major M25 delays hit county motorists

Motorists in West Sussex have today been caught up in major delays after part of the M25 collapsed.

The incident occurred at 5.30am following heavy rain and Surrey Police reported that drivers suffered damaged tyres after the road near Leatherhead fell in. Three lanes were closed on the anti-clockwise carriageway and there were reports that traffic was delayed by up to three hours although that wait has been reduced to 90 minutes.

There were reports that commuters travelling to Gatwick Airport were caught in the delays.

At 1pm today the Highways Agency predicted that traffic conditions would be back to normal by 4pm today.
