Russell Brown of Burgess Hill explained that the station is actually in World’s End, not Wivelsfield.

The duo read the comment out on Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review on BBC Radio 5 Live (March 19).

“The station is more than two miles away from the village which takes its title,” Russell said.

“While it’s not unusual for railway companies – in this case the London, Brighton and South Coast railway – to name stations after places they’re not next to, in this case they probably had a good reason as the station is actually situated in World’s End.

“Part of me wishes that if we were in a parallel universe and were in our normal, sane times I’ll be on a train back from London and hear the automated announcement say ‘we are now approaching World’s End.”

He added: “I’d either give a knowing look to my fellow weary commuters at this ironic message or, even better, strangers as they tried to process where they were.”

Russell also asked the chuckling duo to give a ‘shout out’ to Burgess Hill’s Orion cinema.

He said: “It’s a beautiful two-screen cinema with an art deco facade and lovely friendly staff.”

The comment arrived after the podcasters had talked about towns around the world with ominous sounding names.
