Police are investigating a crash on the B2028 Selsfield Road, Ardingly, in which a motorcycle pillion passenger was badly hurt.

According to police, it happened near Wakehurst Place at 3.45pm on Sunday, September 25, as the rider of a southbound white Honda CBR1000 sought to avoid an oncoming blue Ford Iveco horsebox.

The horsebox was overtaking two cyclists and continued on its way. It was later traced to Essex, police said in a statement.

The motorcycle, ridden by a 51-year-old man from Ardingly, left the road and struck a post.

The rider was bruised but his passenger, a 31-year-old man also from Ardingly, sustained serious hip and wrist injuries, Sussex Police said.

He was flown by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, London, where he has been detained for treatment. His condition is stable.

Anyone who saw or who has other information about the crash is asked to email or phone 101, quoting Operation Tintagel.
