There will be no Southern train services into London Bridge over the entire bank holiday weekend due to the engineering works to increase lines and platforms.

From 1.25am on Saturday, May 25 to 4am on Tuesday, May 28, platforms 8 to 13 will be closed.

This means all the platforms used by Southern will be out of operation but First Capital Connect will continue to serve the station.

On Tuesday May 28, platforms 8 to 13 will be back in full operation whilst platforms 14, 15 and 16 will continue to be closed, in line with the new May timetable.

Southern’s performance director, David Scorey, has warned: “It’s fair to say the remaining platforms will be used to full capacity and if disruption occurs it may take a little more time to recover the timetable.”

The major engineering works at London Bridge are designed to increase capacity at one of the busiest stations on the railway network.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “The final station layout will have two dedicated platforms for Thamselink services, enabling 18 trains per hour through London Bridge and six further trains through Elephant and Castle to form 24 trains per hour to travel through central London.”

*There will be engineering works on other parts of the Southern network during the Bank Holiday weekend:

On Saturday, May 25 there will be no services between Milton Keynes and Watford Junction and Clapham Junction.

On Sunday, May 26 there will be no services between: Hastings and Ashford; Milton Keynes and Watford Junction and Clapham Junction; Crawley and Billingshurst; Norwood Junction and West Croydon and between St Denys and Fareham.
