SUSSEX Police are appealing for witnesses to a road collision in Saltdean which left a woman with a serious injury.

The 18-year Saltdean woman was hit by a black Mazda three saloon on the A259 Marine Drive at the junction with Saltdean Park Road just before 11.15am on Friday August 31.

She is receiving treatment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for a serious but non life threatening leg injury.

It is believed that she had just got out of the car while it was stopped in Marine Drive, and was then hit while crossing the road.

The car was abandoned in a car park nearby and a 22-year old Telscombe Cliffs man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Detective inspector Miles Ockwell said; “The victim and the driver know each other so that this does not appear to be a random incident.

“The woman has received a serious injury, and although we have yet to establish the full circumstances, we are clearly considering that the collision may have been deliberate.
