Renewed appeal over fatal car crash near East Grinstead

Police investigating a fatal car crash on the A264 Holtye Road between Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead on Friday, December 20, have renewed an appeal for witnesses.

In particular, they are keen to talk to the driver of a white Volkswagen van known to have been in the area at the time.

The crash occurred at about 8.25pm and involved a collision between a silver Peugeot 206 travelling west towards East Grinstead and a black Audi A3 travelling in the opposite direction.

It happened on the border of East and West Sussex, some 600 metres west of the A264’s junction with Shovelstrode Lane.

A 23-year-old man driving the Peugeot died of his injuries at the scene. He has since been named as Daniel Wilson, who was from the York Road area in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Two men in the Audi, both 21 and both from East Grinstead, were taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with serious but not life-threatening injuries. They are still being detained for treatment.

PC Doug Park, of Sussex Police, said: “It’s believed the driver of a white VW van may have seen the collision or may have passed the scene shortly afterwards. It would be extremely helpful if that person could get in touch.”

Anyone who saw what happened or who has other information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101, quoting Operation Annesley, or to email: [email protected]
