Safety plea for crash hotspot on A24 near Horsham

A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said new road signs and markings are scheduled to take place, but this is not set to occur before Christmas.

Andrew Moore, 33, of Horsham, drives along the road every day, and decided to take matters into his own hands after witnessing an accident on Tuesday October 14.

After filming a video highlighting the lack of awareness of dangerous corners, Andrew uploaded it to the County Times’ Facebook page, where it has attracted dozens of comments.

He said: “I recorded the video, then happened to be involved in an accident on Tuesday morning when a girl crashed right in front of me. I thought I am going to post it and see what people say.”

He added that road signs and markings could improve the road’s safety.

He said: “The only sign is right on the last corner, and that is a bit late.

“They’re either damaged, broken, or in a hedge. I am not saying a sign will prevent it, but it would warn people.”

A county council spokesperson said: “We are investigating the spate of collisions along this stretch of road with Sussex Police, and will be meeting with our colleagues across the border in Surrey to discuss safety issues further.

“We had planned to put some additional road signs and road markings in at this location, but this is not scheduled until after Christmas.”

Last June, a 20-year-old woman died after her car was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the road.

Sussex Police said a patch of oil was found on the road after an accident on Friday October 10, but later said it was not linked to that particular incident.

Mike Lewis, who lives alongside the road, claimed Kingsfold witnessed 11 accidents in the space of 11 days earlier this month.
