A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.26pm to reports of a skip lorry on fire on the A24 between Long Furlong and Washington. The fire was in the exhaust system.

“Two appliances from Worthing Fire Station and one from Storrington Fire Station was mobilised to the scene. It was quickly dealt with and crews booked away from the incident at 1.49pm.”

As a result, there have been delays in the area, with reports of heavier than normal traffic around the Durrington Cemetery roundabout.
