Roadworks will be taking place along the A21 in St Leonards this month.

East Sussex Highways said it will be carrying out upgrade works to traffic signals on the A21 in Sedlescombe Road, London Road and Battle Road in the Silverhill area.

A spokesperson said: “Works will be carried out from Sunday, January 12 to Friday, January 31 between 8am and 4pm.

“These works involve removal of the current signalised junction, followed by the installation of new, upgraded traffic signals.

“The decision to upgrade this location is due to increased maintenance costs, age, and a reduction in reliability/safety. Updating this location maintains a reliable network that provides a safe environment for all road users but is also cost effective throughout its life span.

“We will endeavour to complete the works as quickly as possible, however some delays will be unavoidable.

“The team will be working at the junction of the A21 in Sedlescombe Road, London Road and Battle Road. There will be minimal disruption to the carriageway and disruption to road users.

“We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our work.

“All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

“Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.”
