Drivers are being warned delays are likely on Bennetts Road and Elmgrove with temporary traffic lights in place.

There are also temporary traffic lights – likely to cause delays – on Crawley Road in Roffey while UKPowerNetworks carries out works.

A temporary 40mph speed limit is in place on the A24 between the Broadbridge Heath roundabout and the Great Daux roundabout.

A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “There are currently significant works taking place around the county, the majority of which are being carried out by developers and utility companies, including tackling a backlog of work that has been delayed by Covid-19 national lockdowns and restrictions.

“We have to allow reasonable access to carry out the works, although we operate systems to try to ensure disruption is minimised as much as possible. There are, of course, occasions where emergency works can disrupt those plans, but again we do all we can to try to mitigate against this.

“The county council continued to maintain the highway network throughout the lockdowns and restrictions and is also currently several months into a £17million investment in roads and footways across West Sussex. Collectively, the 320-plus carriageway and footway schemes represent one of the biggest investments in the county’s highway infrastructure in the last decade. Whilst this level of work will cause a level of disruption in the short term, the longer-term benefits will be significant.”

“With regard to the area around Horsham in particular, large-scale developments are being built here and these often demand road improvements to support the growth in traffic that the new housing will bring, plus new gas, water, electricity and telecommunications connections and feeds. In some cases the new connections to the developments necessitate the upsizing of an existing supply main many miles from the development before a new connection can then be made to the new homes.”
