The closures, which began yesterday (Thursday) are as work continues on the upgrade on the A23 between Handcross and Warninglid. From this morning (Friday) southbound traffic will use the temporary widened section between Handcross and Slaugham.

From this evening (friday) work will continue on the construction of crossover points in the central reservation that will be used during the next phase of the scheme. This work has been delayed from earlier this week due to the severe weather.

The crossover points will allow traffic in later parts of the scheme to move from one carriageway into a contraflow on the opposite carriageway. This will mean work can be carried out on one carriageway free of traffic.

The work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday, with a fully signed diversion route in place via the A264, A24 and A272.
