Southern has announced that trains have to run slower this morning (Wednesday, September 4).

Southern said on X at 7.42am: “A water main has burst near the railway in the London Victoria area. Trains have to run slower on all lines and this is in turn causing delays to services to/from this station.”

They said: “Trains running to/from London Victoria may pick up delays of around 20 mins in this area. You should leave an additional 30 mins to complete your journey this morning to/from London Victoria.”

Southern said: “Trains that run between Victoria and Bognor Regis and Portsmouth Harbour will only run between the coast and Gatwick Airport. Between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria, you will need to use an alternative route. Trains on the route from Victoria to Reigate, will divert, terminate, and restart at either East Croydon or London Bridge and you will need to use an alternative route to complete your journey.

“Other trains running on the route London Victoria to/from Eastbourne/Ore/Littlehampton/Epsom Downs/London Bridge/Horsham(via Dorking) and East Grinstead. Will run as booked but will pick up delays now expected to be around 30 minutes.

“Ad-hoc trains will divert into London Bridge or terminate early at East Croydon and you will need to use an alternative route to complete your journey.”

Southern said tickets will be accepted on alternative Southern and Thameslink services on ‘any reasonable route’, as well as: South Western Railway services between London and Dorking/Portsmouth, Great Western Railway services between Redhill and Reigate, or Southeastern services between London Cannon Street, or London Victoria and Ashford International, Hastings and St Leonards Warrior Square.
