Network Rail engineers were reportedly on site fixing the issue, which meant trains had to run at a reduced speed earlier today (Thursday, August 13), according to Southern Rail.

Southern initially said on Twitter at 1.30pm, “A fault with the level crossing barriers at Polegate means that we are currently unable to run trains between Eastbourne and Lewes - this is affecting trains in both directions.”

The company tweeted an hour later saying services will be subject to delay and possible alteration/cancellation due to the fault.
