The two incidents took place within the space of an hour, as the crew was called to Dutchells Copse off Rusper Road at around 8.25pm and Leechpool Woods at about 9.10pm.

The fire in Dutchells Copse was put out using buckets of water having been started deliberately, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.

The second incident is described as an unattended bonfire in Leechpool Woods that was extinguished using a hose reel.
