UPDATE: 88-year-old suffers '˜serious head injury' in Hove collision

An 88-year-old man from Hove remains in hospital after sustaining a '˜serious head injury' when he was a pedestrian involved in a collision with a car in Hove yesterday, police said.

The collision happened at the junction of New Church Road and Richardson Road in Hove at around 4.35pm, Friday, January 12.

Today (Saturday) a police spokesman said: “Police and ambulance were called to the location, where a silver Ford Fiesta car and an 88-year-old man on foot had been in collision.

“The man sustained serious head injuries and was transported to Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton).

“Anyone who witnessed what happened is asked to call police, quoting Operation Code.”

The spokesman added that the man was still in hospital today being treated, but his current condition is unknown.

The car driver, a 31-year-old man also from Hove, was unhurt, police later confirmed.

Six vehicles were sent to the scene, and New Church Road was completely closed.

A police spokesman described the man as ‘not in a good way’ at the time of the collision.
