UPDATE: A24 Ashington victim was traffic worker, say police

A Henfield man who died on the A24 in Ashington after a collision with a car yesterday (Monday August 12) was a traffic management worker, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the scene half a mile north of the Ashington roundabout at around 2.30pm.

The collision took place on the southbound carriageway.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “A 49-year-old man was struck by a passing car and sadly died at the scene from his injuries.

“The man, from Henfield, was working as a traffic management worker, subcontracted to West Sussex Highways, at the time of the collision and was working in the road.

“The 58-year-old male driver of the car, a silver Peugeot, was shocked but unhurt.”

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
