UPDATE: A24 cyclist condition ‘serious but stable’

A cyclist who suffered life-threatening injuries after a collision on the A24 near Horsham is in a ‘serious but stable’ condition, say Sussex Police.

Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to the dual carriageway near the Buckbarn Crossroads shortly after 11.30am on Thursday January 2.

The cyclist, described by police as a 67-year-old local man, suffered a serious head injury.

Worthing Road in Southwater was closed to enable the Sussex Air Ambulance to land on the dual carriageway.

The man has been airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London.

His condition was initially assessed as life-threatening, Sussex Police said at the time.

The northbound carriageway of the A24 was re-opened just after 1pm but the southbound carriageway remained closed for a further two hours.

Police have launched a witness appeal.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “The circumstances are now being investigated and anyone who saw the collision or who has other information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101, or email [email protected], quoting Operation Reagan.
