UPDATE: A283 in Washington re-opens after ‘serious accident’

THE A283 between Washington and Steyning has re-opened in both directions following a serious accident involving two vehicles.

Sussex Police rushed to the scene at 11.20am and closed The Pike (A283) between A24 London Road junction in Washington and the B2135 Horsham Road junction in Steyning.

Police say a 73-year-old woman from Gomeldon, Salisbury, driving a Peugeot 306, collided with a Nissan Almera, driven by a 66-year-old woman from West Chiltington.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to Worthing hospital with minor injuries.

A 71-year-old woman passenger in the Peugeot and the 60-year-old woman passenger in the Nissan and were both uninjured.

Police later re-opened the road at 12.52pm and thanked the public for their understanding while the road was closed.
