UPDATE: Cause of Copthorne bungalow blaze ‘under investigation’

Firefighters are investigating the cause of a blaze that gutted a bungalow in Copthorne yesterday afternoon (Sunday November 22).

The entire building was damaged by smoke and 90 per cent of the Copthorne Road home was damaged by flames after the blaze took hold at about 12.25pm.

The roof of the building collapsed during the fire, but no one was injured with all persons accounted for by the fire service.

Fire crews from Crawley and Reigate and technical rescue unit officers used four hose reels, six breathing apparatus, two short extension ladders and small tools to fight the flames.

The bungalow is set back from the road. Police and paramedics were also called to the scene.

It is not yet clear how the fire started. Copthorne Road was closed in both directions while firefighters tackled the fire.

Firefighters left the scene at about 5pm.
