A spokesman for the fire service said it was initially reported as a two car collision and crews from Billingshurst, Cranleigh, Crawley and Dunsfold attended the incident.

A 68-year-old man, from Nutbourne, became trapped in the vehicle and was freed using hydraulic rescue equipment.

Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for five hours while the road was cleared and officers investigated the crash.

Sergeant Alan Spicer said: “I would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw what happened.
