Customers had to leave the Schooner Inn in Albion Street on Friday night because of a fire.
Three fire engines were called to the pub, which overlooks Shoreham harbour, at around 6.30pm, a spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue confirmed.
Pictures taken by members of the public on Friday also show an aerial platform being used by firefighters at the scene.
Following the incident, investigations were carried out into the cause of the fire and on Tuesday the fire investigator said the blaze was believed to have been started accidentally and spread to the roof of the inn.
The investigator said it was likely to have started on a cooker in the kitchen and spread to the roof of the building through the extraction ducts.
No injuries were reported in the incident, the fire service confirmed.
A notice on the door of the pub says it will be closed until further notice due to a kitchen fire.
