UPDATE: Teenager airlifted to hospital in life-threatening condition after Barns Green crash

A 19-year-old woman has suffered life-threatening injuries after a single vehicle collision in Barns Green this afternoon (Thursday December 5).

Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to Chapel Road just after 2pm.

The car is believed to have left the road and collided with a telegraph pole.

The teen was cut out of the car by firefighters.

She has suffered a serious injury and was initially assessed as being in a life-threatening condition.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Just after 2pm on Thursday (December 5) a silver Ford Astra saloon car driven by a 19-year-old local woman left the road in Chapel Road, Barns Green.

“The woman received a serious head injury after being released from the car by firefighters she was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital in what was initially assessed as a life-threatening condition.

“The road was expected to be closed until at least 6pm while the scene is examined and made safe.”

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) said: “Initially the injury was not thought to be serious, but her condition deteriorated and paramedics had cause for concern. She was treated at the scene before being airlifted to hospital.

“She was also treated for shock.”
