UPDATE: Town centre explosion latest

A man is being treated in hospital for flash burns on his face and neck following an explosion in Horsham town centre this morning.

Crews from the South East Coast Ambulance service were called to a market stall in Horsham’s Carfax just after 11am following reports that a man had been injured by a gas canister.

A spokesman said the man, who was fully conscious, was assessed for flash burns before being rushed for treatment to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.

Eyewitnesses earlier spoke of hearing an explosion at the market which shook nearby shop windows.

Investigations into the cause of the blast are ongoing.
