Woman dies after A286 collision

An 80-year-old woman died after a crash on the A286 in Haslemere on Friday (February 21), Surrey Police has confirmed.

Midhurst-based firefighters were called to assist at the scene of the serious crash at around 12.50pm on A286 Midhurst Road.

Whilst Surrey Police carried out their investigations, Bell Road, between the junction of the A287 and Midhurst Road was closed. Fernden Lane at the junction of the A286 was also closed and remained so for most of the day.

A police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a woman has sadly died following a collision between the junction of the A287 and A286 on Bell Road and Midhurst Road in Haslemere.

"The collision, involving a blue Citroen Saxo car and a black Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4, took place at around 12:50pm.

"The driver of the Citroen, an 80 year old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the collision. The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries. Police have notified the woman’s next of kin.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision, or with any information which could assist our enquires including dashcam footage, is asked to contact us on 101, quoting incident reference PR/45200020772."
