Woman dies in Cowfold collision

A 49-year-old woman from Canterbury has died after the blue Vauxhall Astra she was in collided head-on with a black Audi on the A272, Cowfold, last night (Sunday April 15).

Police and emergency services, including West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene near Kentstreet Lane, Cowfold, shortly after 5pm.

The Audi driver, a 74-year-old man from Horsham, was taken to East Surrey Hospital with cuts and bruises and was expected to be released later on today (Monday April 16).

The 45-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Astra, a man from Morden, Surrey, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton suffering from serious, but non life-threatening injuries, along with the two other passengers in the car - a 49-year-old woman from Morden and a 51-year-old man from Canterbury.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “If you witnessed the collision or saw either of the cars prior to the incident please call Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Hydra.”
