Vowels Lane in Selsfield Common is closed in both directions between the Selsfield Road junction and the B2110 Turner’s Hill Road junction because of the tree.

The obstruction is causing knock-on traffic delays and motorists are being asked to find alternative routes if possible.

One lane is closed northbound on the M23 between J9 (Gatwick Airport) and J8 (M25) following an earlier accident.

The vehicles involved have now been moved onto the hard shoulder and recovery work is taking place.

There are no other reported congestion spots in Sussex.

There are delays on the trains between East Grinstead and Hurst Green until at least 11am this morning because of the obstruction on the line. Metrobus are accepting tickets between Three Bridges and Lingfield to ease the disruption.

For those jetting abroad on their summer holidays this morning, flights are running as normal from Gatwick Airport.
