Travellers set to remain in Littlehampton until next week

TRAVELLERS look set to remain encamped on Littlehampton’s Green until next week while Arun District Council seeks legal action to remove them.

More than a dozen caravans are now pitched up on The Green, east of Banjo Road, without permission.

Arun – the authority in charge of parks and open spaces in the district – said that it will begin court proceedings on Tuesday (July 30).

A spokeswoman for the council said it was seeking to get an order to regain possession of the land from the travellers.

“We can’t say anything more until after the court hearing,” she added.

The travellers entered The Green through a break in the wooden fencing surrounding the perimeter of the open space, on Tuesday (July 23).

Sussex Police are aware of the situation and officers from the force have visited the site,
