Travellers set up camp on recreation ground

Caravans arrived on the Malling Recreation Ground, Lewes, near to a children's playground, on Friday.

Lewes District Council, which owns the land, said it was taking legal advice.

A district council spokesman said: 'There are approximately eight caravans and we believe they arrived sometime after Friday lunchtime.

'We are liaising with our legal department to take necessary enforcement action and we want to do it as soon as we can.'
