Treat your working feet

THINK you've had a hard day's work? Spare a thought for your feet.

As part of this year's Feet for Life Month, the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists have launched their 'Working Feet' campaign to give helpful foot care advice on how 'working feet' problems can be avoided. The campaign urges everyone to be more aware of the dangers of hard working feet and hopes to encourage people to look after their feet properly and avoid foot and associated health problems in the future.

Locally, there are three dates planned for 'Working Feet' information displays, which are Priory Meadow Shopping Centre on 2nd July, Bexhill Leisure Centre on 4th July (morning only) and the front foyer at the Conquest Hospital on 20th July (afternoon only).

Adam Cooper-Lloyd, Lead Podiatrist in Health Promotion, based at the Conquest Hospital said: "It's important to wear comfortable shoes to work that fit properly. Feet can spend hours in the same shoes and if your feet hurt it can affect your concentration, efficiency and attitude to work. Ignoring painful feet could also lead to problems in the long term.

"Wearing your killer heels to the office every day may be super stylish, or squeezing your feet into uncomfortable or ill-fitting shoes might mean not having to buy new ones, but it can be murder for your feet. Wearing the wrong type of shoes for long periods can cause a range of problems from blisters, corns and calluses to serious foot, knee and back pain and damaged joints."
