The Mayor of Saintry sur Seine, which is just south of Paris, gave a Ginkgo Biloba tree to Polegate Mayor Cllr Michael Clewett.
It was during a visit to Saintry Sur Seine in June, where Cllr Clewett gave Mme Martine Cartau-Oury an inscribed crystal bowl.
Cllr Clewett said the tree is a deciduous forest species.
Before it could be planted, a licence had to be obtained from East Sussex County Council Highways Authority to place it in the verge opposite the Harvester Inn in Polegate.
The paperwork and a ground radar survey of the location was completed and the planting ceremony for the new tree took place in Polegate on November 29.
Cllr Clewett together with Peter Saunders, the new chairman of Polegate Twinning Association, and the deputy Lady Mayoress of Polegate, Cllr Clewett’s daughter Laura took part in the tree planting ceremony.
It was a busy day for Polegate.
Later in the afternoon the town’s annual Dickensian Christmas event took place.
