Tree group from Aldwick honoured with award

Tree planters in Aldwick have been recognised for their efforts.

The Aldwick Tree Group has received the area's first community environmental award.

This was presented to joint founder Colin Crouch by the Aldwick In Bloom volunteers at a recent reception.

The award acknowledges the work the group's members have put in to make the parish a more pleasant place.

They oversaw the planting of 28 trees around its roads after a chance conversation between Mr Crouch and his neighbour, Justin Dell, saw them lamenting the loss of trees from outside their homes in Fernhurst Gardens.

They enlisted the support of their neighbours and were soon in action with the backing of local MP Nick Gibb, Aldwick Preservation Society and Aldwick Parish Council.

The county council's highways department also joined in the effort to help get the saplings planted at 50 a time.

A series of fundraising events by the group ensured the money came in.
