Tree of Hope event at Easebourne raises £6,000

The church was packed when Macmillan Cancer Support in Midhurst held its annual Tree of Hope service at St Mary's, Easebourne.

The 2015 Book of Love and those of the previous five years were on display and the Rev Derek Welsman led the service with carols accompanied by the Midhurst Rother College band and the Easebourne Primary School junior choir performing two songs.

The congregation went outside for the ‘lighting up’ of the tree. Then Macmillan volunteers served mince pies donated by the parish and mulled wine prepared by the Cowdray Cafe and provided by Jacaranda Catering. Midhurst and Petworth Rotary Club once organised car parking.

Karen Lang of the Tree of Hope committee said “We are grateful to Lord and Lady Cowdray and the Estate team for their continued support, also all our volunteers and the community without whom the event would not be possible. All donations go to the Macmillan Midhurst Specialist Community Palliative Care Service, to support patients and their families living with cancer and other life threatening illnesses in Midhurst and the surrounding areas.”

Dedications are still being taken up to the end of December and so far this year’s event has raised nearly £6,000.
