Tree planted in memory of Peacehaven mayor

A FLOWERING cherry tree was planted as a memorial to the former Peacehaven mayor Chris Ogden on Friday November 11.

Cllr Ogden, died in April earlier this year, aged 64.

He had been a councillor since May 2007 and mayor since May 2010, having lived in the town for almost 30 years.

During his year in office he raised funds for two charities close to his heart, Help For Heroes and the Martlets Hospice.

He ran his own company, Sussex Will Writing, and was also a founding member of the town’s Chamber of Commerce.

The ceremony was attended by current mayor Phil Howson, deputy mayor Elayne Merry and councillors Sargent, Harris, Buchanan and the town clerk Kevin Kingston.

Others who attended were town council information officer Deborah Donovan and council groundstaff Kevin Bray, Tony Burrell, Tom James.

The ceremony took place on land next to Greenwich Way and near the junction with Arundel Way in Peacehaven.
