Tree planting event in Littlehampton

A NUMBER of trees are being planted next week to celebrate the Littlehampton Big Tree Project’s second year.

Arun District Council’s chairman, Terence Chapman, will be planting the first tree at the event, being held at Jubilee Hall, Southfields Road, on Tuesday from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

He will be accompanied by Littlehampton mayor Joyce Bowyer.

The Arun Biodiversity Forum, which runs the project, is keen for people to come along to the event see the trees being planted and enjoy a cup of tea.

Last year saw a total of 365 trees taking root, and this year the Arun Biodiversity Forum and helpers hope to plant another 600.

To date, all the planting sites have been Arun District Council land, but more ideas for sites are welcome.

Councillor Paul Dendle, Arun’s cabinet member for environmental services, added: “It doesn’t matter if you haven’t got green fingers; you can still help plant some trees, or just come along to watch.”
