The National Trust is beginning the huge task of planting 13,000 native trees as part of the Rise of Northwood project on the ancient Slindon estate and the charity is appealing for an army of volunteer tree planters.

Northwood is a 75- hectare area of farmland and the aim is to return it back to its former glory. “This is a great opportunity for local communities and groups to be part of this woodland legacy, and to give it a big helping hand,” said Hannah Woodhouse, the Northwood project ranger.

The project runs on November 29 and 30, from 9.30am, and finishing at 3pm on both days. A free barbecue and refreshments will be on hand. For details call 01243 814730.
