Trevor Beattie appointed as South Downs National Park Authority chief executive

THE SOUTH Downs National Park Authority has appointed Trevor Beattie as its new Chief Executive. He will take up his new role on January 17.

Following his early career in the Department of Environment, Mr Beattie joined English Partnerships where he became Corporate Strategy Director.

In 2008 he led the team that established the Homes and Communities Agency, a new public body with a budget of £5 billion that combined the Housing Corporation, English Partnerships and the Academy for Sustainable Communities.

He stayed on as Director of Strategy and has most recently acted as Chairman of the Land and Society Commission of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Margaret Paren, Chair of the South Downs National Park Authority, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract such a high calibre and experienced public servant to be our new Chief Executive.

“Trevor brings an in-depth knowledge of community enterprise and environmental policy and a wealth of management expertise, which includes setting up a major new Government Agency.

“He is the right person to help our new National Park Authority, still in its first operational year, to move into the next phase of its life. I know he will make a great success of this challenging role.”

Mr Beattie said: “I am very pleased to be taking on this important role. I was brought up in rural West Sussex and have lived close to the South Downs for most of my life.

“The environment and heritage of the South Downs are uniquely precious, and it is a great privilege now to serve as Chief Executive of this new National Park Authority.

“I know that the Authority has an excellent team of members and has recruited highly skilled and committed staff.

“I very much look forward to working with them, with partner organisations and with communities in the South Downs, to help conserve and enhance this wonderful part of England.”
