Tribute to 'free spirit' Seren - killed in crash

THE mother and sister of a teenage motorcyclist killed in a crash at East Preston have spoken of his warmth, friendliness and zest for life.

Seren Domin, 18, died in Worthing Hospital a couple of hours after Thursday's crash in Old Worthing Road, at around 7.30pm.

"His first names, Seren Thomas Adam Robin, spell STAR, which is what Seren means in Welsh, and he will always be my star," said mum Marion, of Lloyd Goring Close, Angmering.

"Seren always wanted people to be happy, and if they weren't, he would try to cheer them up. He was a very happy, talkative person and would chat to anybody He was full of fun and full of life.

"I haven't just lost a son, but a best friend, too. That's the hardest thing. We will miss his cheeriness and the way he would help everybody," added Mrs Domin, 50.

She and her husband Martin, also 50, rushed to the hospital after police told them there had been an accident, but Seren died in the operating theatre before they were able to see him.

The powerful 500cc motorcycle he was riding crashed into the back of a parked car. No other vehicle was involved.

Mrs Domin said the family was still not sure what had happened in the accident, but hoped it would make young people take more care on the roads.

Seren learned to ride his big sister Zowie's bike when he was just two and loved riding BMX bikes. He also had a pink unicycle for a time, and became a familiar figure riding it round Angmering.

After leaving The Angmering School two years ago, he went on a government training course, which led to him working at Spokes Cycles in Beach Road, Littlehampton, on Saturdays and whenever owner Andrew Sleeman needed his help.

At the weekend, a team from the shop took part in the Capital to Coast charity cycle event. They dedicated their ride to Seren's memory, with another cyclist taking the place he would have filled.

Spokes staff also sent the family a message of condolence, as did teachers at The Angmering School and many friends and neighbours. David Brixey, head teacher at the school, said: "We were very sad to hear of Seren's tragic accident. In many ways he was a free spirit, who showed kindness to many people."

Sister Zowie, 26, who lives in north London, said Seren "was a brilliant uncle" to her four children, Eliott, eight, Rebecca and Bailey, both five, and Caitlin, eight months.

"They will all miss him so much. They adored him. He taught Eliott, to ride a bike and he bought Bailey, a bike at Christmas."

An Old Worthing Road resident went to help Seren after hearing a bang.

"I could see the lad underneath the bike. I turned off the ignition and started talking to him. He said he was in a lot of pain.

"He had a helmet on and the visor was up. I had to stop him moving and made him as comfortable as I could and just kept talking to him until the ambulance arrived."

Seren's funeral will be at St Margaret's Church, Angmering, on Friday, July 27, at 2pm. His family invites all his friends to attend the celebration of his life.
