Tribute to tragic firefighter

A BENCH has been unveiled in memory of one of two firefighters who died in an explosion at a firework factory near Ringmer just before Christmas 2006.

Brian Wembridge and Geoff Wicker both died in the blast at Festival Fireworks, Marlie Farm.

The bench has been placed at Mr Wembridge's favourite spot on the Ashdown Forest after a request from his family.

It was unveiled by his widow, Lesley.

Mrs Wembridge also unveiled a memorial stone and tree at Crowborough fire station where Mr Wembridge worked.

She was given a polished axe, a traditional gift for retired firefighters.

East Sussex chief fire officer Des Pritchard said: 'These are fitting tributes.

'The family is an example to us all.'
