Tributes follow shock death of Derek Norcross

TRIBUTES have flowed in from around the county following the shock death of Derek Norcross.

Mr Norcross - educationalist, politician, musician, adventurer and for many years the driving force behind St Michael's Hospice - died on November 10 when he was struck by a car which mounted the pavement in Robertsbridge, East Sussex. He was 76.

The De La Warr Pavilion Trust, local schools and the world of musical theatre are among those shocked and saddened by his death.

He was the retired head teacher of St Paul's primary school at Hastings and was a former chairman of East Sussex County Council.

His boundless energy and enthusiasm for life made him one of the best known and most popular of local figures.

Mr Norcross held Hastings' top civic award, The Order of 1066, and in 2005 received the OBE from Prince Charles.
