Tributes to lighting pioneer of Bognor Regis

TRIBUTES have been paid to the man who lit up the town at Christmas.

Norman Tullett, who helped to found the Bognor Regis Illumination Fund, passed away last Wednesday aged 79. His funeral will be held at St Wilfrid’s Church today Wednesday (September 19).

The fund was also the instigator of the August bank holiday gala to raise funds for the Christmas lights.

One of his daughters, Trudi Crespi, said: “Many generations of the Tullett family have been associated with the town and Norman was proud to call Bognor his home.

“As one of his fellow illuminations fund members said: ‘He was one of a kind’.”

Mr Tullett was well known as the owner of the removal firm, Tullett of Bognor. He and his distinguished red lorry became a familiar sight in the area.

The vehicle is now housed in a museum in Scotland following his retirement in 1999.

It was some 20 years earlier Mr Tullett helped to found the illuminations fund to ensure Bognor town centre sparkled during the festive season. It carried on its work until a few years ago when the town council became responsible for the decorative lighting displays.

Mr Tullett is survived by his wife, two daughters and six grandchildren.
