Tributes to Wick’s leading man

TOUCHING tributes have been paid by the family of a leading light in the area’s amateur dramatic world, who has died after an eight-month struggle against cancer.

Don Attle was with his family when he died from mesothelioma, at his home at Hampton Fields, Wick, at the age of 90.

Described as a “larger-than-life character” by his son, Colin, Don was known for his dedicated work over many decades with various amateur dramatic groups across Littlehampton and Worthing.

“Everywhere we went, somebody would know him, especially in Littlehampton,” said Colin.

“He was a generous, kind, caring man.”

Don, who was founding member of the Littlehampton Players’ Operatic Society, had performed, produced or designed sets for hundreds of plays across the district for more than 40 years.

In his acting hay-day, Don was associated with theatrical groups including the Worthing Musical Comedy Society, Bognor Operatic Society, Bognor Orpheans, Littlehampton Dramatic Society and the Rustington Players.
