The Sussex Police constable was attacked after being called to a fight which broke out at The Burrell Arms in Commercial Square at around 11pm, during which several glasses and advertising boards were broken.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Two men, aged 45 and 46, and both from Lindfield, were punched and struck with bottles after supporting repeated requests by the landlady for the group to behave. One man was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, with a suspected fractured cheekbone.
