Trip to Rochester for 10 young people from Bexhill

THERE will be no time to be bored this Christmas for a group of 10 young people from Bexhill.

They will be spending their holidays on a trip to Rochester, visiting one of the UK's best indoor skate parks. It is is part of the group's campaigning work for an indoor skate park for Bexhill.

With support from the county council Youth Development Service, the group has been organising trips for themselves, around the UK, to visit the best examples of indoor skateboarding parks.

These were an opportunity to view large, professionally-built indoor skate parks to support their skate park campaign.

They also decided to use their skateboarding activities to count towards gaining a Duke of Edinburgh's Award, which has four components: a physical activity (eg. skateboarding); skills; volunteering; and an expedition.

To help kick-start their plans, the group - all aged between 15 and 16 - successfully bid for grant money from the county council's Youth Opportunity Fund.

The visit to Rochester during the Christmas holidays follows on from trips to London, Manchester and to the renowned Transition Extreme skate park in Aberdeen, which the group organised for themselves during the summer.
